CLOTHING IMMATERIAL

FOR SURVIVORS AND SUPPORTERS OF BREAST CANCER

Francis Hills' mother was a two-time breast cancer survivor.

As of Fall 2022, Francis is also a breast cancer survivor.

Clothing Immaterial is a series of portraits of women and men, featuring survivors, as well as supporters for a friend or relative, who literally bared themselves in support of breast cancer awareness.

The aim of the project was simple: for women and men to 'raise their hand' in support and education of breast cancer. It also shows survivors that their strength and beauty comes from within, regardless of scars or reconstruction.

Clothing Immaterial was started back in 2003 and was exhibited twice in New York City.
A second round of images were photographed of just survivors and exhibited at the 2014 Holiday House NYC, with all proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

As a newly minted breast cancer survivor himself, Francis now wants to build awareness that men can have breast cancer too. He will be photographing male survivors and a series of male celebrities for Clothing Immaterial V.3.0.
